The Coronavirus Pandemic has had a large impact of the event and service industry. Event & Support LLC saw the potential of this happening back in early January when the first reports of the virus came out saying that t was a new virus that originated from China. We also believe that the virus was active in the United States even before these reports came out. Many of the symptoms mimic many of the those of the common cold, flu and pneumonia. The cases have decreased in Wisconsin, but we think there will be a resurgence as people begin to gather in groups again. With that being said, we also believe that the economy needs to reopen and that is happening as businesses are opening and people are getting back to work. We need to work together and have a united front to battle this “invisible” threat.
For those in charge of events in their town, county or city, Event Services & Support LLC has identified 3 options as to having your presentation in these unprecedented times with this health crisis going on. They are as follows:
1. Keep your event on the originally scheduled date and put in place CDC policies and guidelines. Such things as wearing masks, hand washing stations, disinfection locations throughout the grounds and social distancing. Have regular contact with your local health departments and health care officials.
2. Postpone your date and hope for the best. If the Coronavirus is still infecting a large number of people, even if not in your direct location, the pressure from CDC and the State Government will make the decision for you. Unfortunately, they have the power to shut down your operations if they deem it unsafe for the community at large.
3. Probably the most in unpopular decision and one that has been made on a daily basis from presenters is to entirely cancel the event. With any event that has spectators, it is nearly impossible to put in place protocols put forth by the CDC. There are many other logistical and operational issues that have developed due to the COVID-19. Many of the events that have cancelled are planning for a resume in 2021. Another negative impact is that the economic impact will be decreased in a very large dollar amount.
Event Services & Support LLC has been tracking events that have cancelled in 2020. This is just a sampling of Wisconsin presentations:
